Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a disorder that affects muscle movement. It becomes evident soon after birth and can result in difficulties with co-ordination, sensation, vision, hearing, swallowing and speaking. The muscles can either be too stiff or too weak. Each person is affected in a different way. Some will have trouble walking and may need to use a wheelchair. Many can speak but also some cannot.

In more than half of the cases of cerebral palsy, brain function is not affected (according to cerebral palsy.org).
