Who I Am

I’m Kate Darbishire, author of Speechless and It Was Never About the Rose. My books have found a home in school libraries and classrooms across the country, sparking conversations about disability, resilience, and inclusion.

It took me ten years — and a lot of self-doubt — to pluck up the courage to publish my first book. When I finally self-published, something remarkable happened: readers connected with it, and publishers actually came to me. That experience taught me that the real turning point in any writing journey isn’t luck or industry approval — it’s trusting your instinct, being brave in the face of rejection, and making bold decisions when your story deserves to be told.

Now, as an editor and coach, I help authors find that same confidence, shape their stories, and bring books into the world that truly resonate.
